He earned a place on the National Skeet Shooting Association All-American 1st Team as early as 1976 and continues participating in National Sporting Clays Association competitions. He holds lifetime memberships with both organizations and the Texas Skeet Shooters Association.
He has hunted upland game birds and waterfowl across the US, Mexico, and Argentina. His fondest boyhood memories are hunting quail, doves, ducks, and small game animals in East Texas. His love of the great outdoors and a desire to conserve wildlife habitat for future generations is why he supports the National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, and Delta Waterfowl through membership.
Carroll is also a Licensed Amateur Radio Operator holding a General Class License with call sign N5BHZ. In the past, Carroll participated in the National Weather Service SKYWARN Storm Spotter Program in East Texas.
Serving and helping others is valued and practiced by Carroll in the communities of Tyler and Lindale.
